Tockholes Traffic Calming

Tockholes is a straggling village that starts near Darwen and works south towards the A675 just east of Winter Hill (the transmitter towers). In 2001 it was given traffic calming in a bid to stop motorcyclists speeding through the village, and it was met with some controversy. The village has a 20 mph speed limit enforced by speed cushions and chicanes. There is 1 mile of 30 mph limit to the south of the village, the rest of the C612 being 50 mph until the A675.

The road is littered with potholes from where maintanence has not been carried out, presumably this will be eventually rectified.

Approximately one mile away from Tockholes is this 30 sign.

A 50 mph speed limit towards the A675.

The yellow sign explains the speed limit cut.

The 20 limit begins before the village, and seems wholly innappropriate.

One of the many chicanes in Tockholes.
